Southern Downs Regional Council through the assistance of Regional Development Australia has engaged I.D. Consulting to supply Economic and Community profiles for the region. This information is designed to be used by council staff, local businesses, investors, community groups, students and the general public.
The community profile contains demographic analysis based on results from the Census. Results include population, age structure, ethnicity, ancestry, religion, income, qualifications, occupations, employment, unemployment, disability, disadvantage, volunteering, childcare, family structure, household structure, housing tenure, mortgage and rental payments, and the size and type of the dwellings people live in. The profile of economic data tells the story of a local economy and how it is changing.
These detailed regional statistics can be found on Councils website and by clicking on the below links.
An example of the types pf reports and graphs that can be created is below, which is a graph depicting the percentage of employment by industry sector in the Southern Downs. While this is a very broad example, more detailed reports can be created. Business owners and operators can utilise this information in their business planning; the Council uses it to plan the delivery of services and infrastructure.
Having access to this type of information will help the Council and industry in the Region to grow and develop, without it we are guessing.
