Starting & Growing a Business

Starting your own business can be significantly gratifying; yet at the same time it can also be extremely challenging.

To help those with an idea and wanting to start a business the State Government's Business and Industry website offers a comprehensive guide for people to access information to help commence the process. Advice ranges from what to do before you start, through to running a business, employing people, export trade and doing business in regional Queensland. Another State Government website that may be of assistance is called Small Business Solutions.

The Australian Government also has a website called business.gov.au which offers you simple and convenient access to all government information, forms and services you need.  It's a whole-of-government service providing essential information on planning, starting and growing your business.

The State Government's Department of State Development, Infrastructure and Planning (DSDIP) website also brings together specialist knowledge, networks and services in order to assist businesses with starting-up, eligibility for financial incentive schemes and expanding.  Other topics include registering a business name and responding to challenges like climate change.

Some individual or business activities require a permit or licence.  Finding this information might seem overwhelming, but it is easily accessible.  Information on permits or licence applications can be found on the Southern Downs Regional Council Website Permits and Licences.
