Battling comparison-itis in business

Words by Yasmin Taylor from Engage & Create Consulting

We all get it from time to time….comparison-itis.

Let’s talk.

There’s been some chat lately (well, since social media was born, and I’m sure before that too) about how to deal with that sinking, gut wrenching feeling of not being enough. Your scrolling through Facebook or Instagram seeing success after success. Huge business growth and awards and funding falling from the sky it seems – for everyone… but you.

It’s hard not to compare and think about why oh why everyone else gets hit with the lucky stick. But here’s the thing…

“The secret to being an overnight success is 12-14 years of consistent, hard work.”

The thing we all need to remember in this day and age of highlight reels is just that – they are highlight reels. People are sharing their wins and rarely their losses – and that’s ok.

So next time you are scrolling and feel that pang of “whyyyy not meeee” take a moment and remember that you are exactly where you need to be. You are on your path and they are on theirs. Then be happy for them, knowing that your turn to share on these highlight reels we so love, is coming. Soon. So hang in there. We’re all in the same comparison filled boat, just paddling in circles doing the best we can.
