From 1am, Wednesday 23 December 2020, hospitality businesses (e.g. pubs, clubs, restaurants, cafes) must use a digital or electronic method to collect information to ensure clarity of records. Electronic capture options include:
- QR code-accessed online forms
- club membership visitation data
- online booking systems
- digital spreadsheets.
Both from a health management and from a legal point of view, business operators need to be fully aware and compliant.

ASSISTANCE TO DEVELOP A COVID RECOVERY PLAN

Tourism business recovery tool – QLD Tourism Industry Council has developed a free Business Recovery Tool with the Australian Tourism Industry Council.

ECONOMIC STIMULUS PACKAGE
On 30th March, the Government announced its intention to provide businesses affected by COVID-19 with a subsidy to continue paying their employees.
QLD Government’s Economic Recovery Plan – Released by the QLD Premier on 20th August.
Other economic supports include:
Boosting cash flow for employers – which provides $100, 000 back to small and medium sized businesses, with a minimum payment of $20, 000 for eligible businesses. The payment will be tax free.
Support for immediate cash flow needs for SMEs – under the Coronavirus SME Scheme, the Australian Government will provide a guarantee of 50% to support short-term loans.
Increasing the Instant Asset Write-Off Threshold – providing cash flow benefits for some businesses.
Small business COVID-19 Adaptation Grant Program – Supporting small businesses to adapt their business practice to cope with the change in requirements due to COVID-19. Round two of applications opens on 1 July 2020 but businesses are encouraged to start preparing their applications and required paperwork.
QLD Tourism boost – The QLD Government is offering a range of initiatives to support tourism businesses.
National Cabinet has agreed to a set of principles for governing commercial tenancies, for business under financial strain due to COVID-19. States and territories will implement a mandatory Commercial Tenancies Code of Conduct, which will apply to tenancies where the tenant or landlord is eligible for the JobKeeper program.

Supporting apprentices and trainees – Eligible employers can apply for a wage subsidy of 50% of their apprentice’s or trainee’s wage from 1st July 2020 to March 2021.

LOANS FOR BUSINESSES
The Federal Government’s Coronavirus Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) Guarantee Scheme will support up to 40 billion dollars of lending to SME’s (including sole traders and not for profits). More information can be found here.

Australian Government’s Economic Response to COVID
Temporary relief for financially distressed businesses – The Australian Government is temporarily increasing the threshold at which creditors can issues a statutory demand
Payroll tax relief package – payroll tax relief measures from Queensland Government including refunds of payroll tax and payroll tax holiday and deferrals.
Small Business power bill relief – Small and medium businesses may be eligible for $500 rebate off their energy bill..
From 1st October, there have been changes made to the QLD/NSW border zone and easing restrictions around travel.

Gatherings of no more than 40 people are permitted in one home or outdoors. This total includes the number of family members that reside in the home. These restrictions do not apply to businesses operating under a COVIDSafe Plan.
Visits to some aged care, disability accommodation services and hospitals are also limited to protect our most vulnerable.
